I came across the Icebreaker Helix long sleeve, midlayer jacket looking to replace a soft shell I stoopidly lost on by not closing a bag properly!
Now that we have lived in them for a while the testing crew and I reckon they are worth every cent. Just don't lose the bloody thing!
The perfect final layer needs to be
I reckon we have ticked all those boxes with Icebreaker Helix jacket.
I'd worn my Helix jacket for a few months trialling it but it wasn't until Tomaselli, Tontine and I had a week in Tassie that the future was clear. Other rider would reeaaally like these too. They have hardly taken theirs off since. Some bugger talked me into selling mine to him so I have to wait for new stock to come in to replace it.
As most people who have worked out, we don't do cheap... That's the point. No two dollar shop nasties here!
The downside (yes there always has to be one) is that Icebreaker didn't see their way making jackets for bikers.
The largest size is 2XL but, they are a pretty big cut and meant to be worn snug.
I usually wear Large in this sort of thing but I'm very comfortable in Medium.
A free return post sticker will come with (email us if we forget) your jacket for exchange or refund. Naturally it must come back brand new, unmarked.
When you take off your Helix you need somewhere to put the bloody thing.
We've made a super lightweight, tent fly, drawstring bag.
Fits Helix, Cloudburst, Rano, Tempest and lots of other stuff.
I haven't had this thing off since buying it - it's definitely the best midlayer I've ever bought. It's light and flexible under a bike jacket, and somehow manages to be cosy in the cold without being stifling when things warm up. The stretch panels down the sides are great for flexibility when moving around and the jacket runs true to size. I use the thumb holes to get the bike jacket on over the top of the Helix, then pull my thumbs out for comfort; but I imagine that if it didn't bother you, the thumb holes would leave no bare skin between sleeve and glove - ideal in winter. Highly recommended.
