The 2.5-layer fabric consists on outer fabric, waterproof membrane and a print on the inside (that’s the half layer, hence why it’s called 2.5) to protect the membrane. This laminate/coating acts as a barrier to help protect the layer against friction, sweat, dirt, or other oils that could clog the pores, which would affect the breathability.

Finally someone has designed a waterproof pant that goes over not inside your adventure gear (including knee guards and Tech 7 boots). Easy to get on and off so a lot less phaffing around. Fit is accurate and not so tight that you have to empty your pockets. Great service BTW with order delivered next day. Almost want it to rain now to test the waterproofing aspect. Happy customer.
Been using an old cheap set of wet weather pants that are ok but time consuming to put on, don’t breath at all and are a pain to take off, but these Rainblock pants are the ducks nuts. Easy to put on quick and no faffing about taking off boots first. When they’re not needed they just fold away and get stored in my A bag for the next time. No brainer really.
